The Kaduna Magistrate Court is to begin afresh hearing of the case of Yemi Awolola who allegedly brutalised a 14-year-old girl under her care due to the transfer of the magistrate handling the matter.
The new magistrate, Benjamin Hassan, said he adjourns the matter because there is a section in the First Information Report of the matter that the Magistrate Court does not have jurisdiction over.
When the matter of Awolola, who allegedly brutalised the 14-year-old girl under her care, came up for hearing, Magistrate Hassan had to adjourn the matter to enable the ministry of justice come out with advice on the way forward.
The complainant, Barrister Bukola Ajoa, said the matter had to begin afresh because the former magistrate, Bashir Shittu, who was handling the case had been transferred.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Ali Omachi, said they are exploring all areas to see if his client could get a plea bargain.
