The Katsina State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has declared 5-day fasting and prayer to seek divine intervention, following the recent happenings around the Christian communities, in the southern part of the state.

This may not be unconnected with the recent abduction, on May 25, of 2 priests from the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, at Gidan Mai Kanbu, in the Kafur Local Government Area, where the terrorists have demanded 100 million Naira ransom.

Similarly, another abduction occurred at the ECWA Church, Gidan Girbau, around Gidan Jinjiri Huguma, in the same Kafur Local Government Area, where two women – an 8-month pregnant 22-year-old Jamila Yunusa, and another 25-year-old Jamila Ali, with her 1-year-old child, were abducted.

The CAN Chairman in the state, The Very Reverend Father Richard Liti, who gave the directive in a letter signed by the Secretary, Dr Musa Daniel, said the 5-Day prayer and fasting will commence from Monday, 6th June to Saturday, 11th June.

According to the letter, all the Denomination/bloc Leaders, Local Government Coordinators, as well as the Women and Youth Wings of CAN across the state, have been directed to comply.

Daniel added that the prayer points will focus on calling upon God to bring an end to the menace of kidnappings in Katsina, pray for divine intervention for the quick release of all kidnapped victims in the state, pray for divine intervention on the happenings in Sokoto State, and others affected by one turbulence or the other.

Others are to Pray for the Governor of Katsina State Aminu Masari for good health and wisdom in piloting the affairs of the state, and for the newly elected Executives of the state’ CAN, for divine wisdom and unction to function faithfully.

The letter concluded by urging all CAN Local Government Executives, Women and Youth Wings of CAN, Leaders, Heads of Denominations/Blocs, and Christian Political Forum Leaders, to converge on ECWA Church, Marabar Kankara on Saturday, June 11 by 11:00 am to climax the programme, by charting a way out of the menace of terrorism in Katsina State, and the country in general.
