The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken delivery of sensitive election materials from the Kano branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and distributed them to the two Local Government Areas where bye-elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kano State, Zango Abdul, said the Commission is fully prepared for the poll and has called on residents to come out and cast their votes without fear, assuring them of adequate security.
Residents of Ungogo and Kano Municipal State Constituencies will head to the polls on Saturday, 21st February 2026, to fill vacancies created by the death of the lawmakers who previously represented the constituencies.
Sensitive materials for the elections were received from the Kano branch of the Central Bank of
Nigeria and formally handed over to Electoral Officers of the affected local government areas by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Zango Abdul.
The exercise marks a critical step in preparations for the bye-election.
Providing operational support to the Kano State office of INEC are Resident Electoral Commissioners from Benue and Kebbi States.
The Benue State REC, Professor Sam Egwu, alongside his Kebbi counterpart, expressed confidence in the Commission’s readiness to conduct a hitch-free election, while also urging political parties and stakeholders to cooperate with electoral officials.
As of the time of filing this report, the pre-election atmosphere in Kano remains calm, with no recorded breakdown of law and order.
