A federal high court in Kano has sentenced 42 year old Salisu Tanko to seven years imprisonment plus One million naira fine for sexual exploitation.

Justice Sa’adatu Mark found the defendant guilty of a one-count charge of sexually exploiting a 13-year-old minor named Hadiza Idris whom he offered five hundred naira for sex.

In the event the convict fails to pay the one million naira fine, the court orders an additional one year imprisonment.

The convict, Salisu Tanko was arrested by the National Agency for the prohibition of trafficking in persons NAPTIP in January this year for sexual exploitation.

Though the Goron Dutse community where the convict lived as estate agent, accused Tanko of serially raping house wives,NAPTIP could only prove the offense of sexual exploitation of the 13 year old Hadiza Idris.

Justice Sa’adatu Mark while sentencing the convict said that the only way to discourage the rampant cases of sexual exploitation in society is to punish those found guilty.

Bello Usman a community leader in Goron Dutse hailed the court judgement.

Desmond Garba NAPTIP zonal director in Kano is also excited about the conviction of Tanko.
