Nigeria’s Senate President Ahmed Lawan has appealed to a Federal High Court in Kano for time to respond to issues raised in a suit seeking to stop a 300 Billion naira loan to finance the proposed Kano Light Rail project.
A Kano based civil society organization Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability CAJA had dragged Lawan and seven others before the court seeking for an absolute order stopping the loan approved by the Kano State house of assembly to be granted by the Chinese Export-Import Bank If guaranteed by Federal Government.
At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, Lawan Yusufari SAN announced appearance for the Senate President asking the court to give him more time as his client was only served with the court papers in January.
Counsel for Kano state government and the state house of assembly Marcelineus Duru raised a preliminary objection challenging jurisdiction of the court to adjudicate in the matter.
