The Kano State Government has joined the Federal Government’s ongoing Youth De-radicalization Programme, a strategic initiative designed to rehabilitate vulnerable youths, and discourage their involvement in violent crimes.
Secretary to the Government of Kano State, Umar Farouk at the inauguration of a steering committee for the programme, said the initiative is expected to significantly benefit young people across the state and get them off violent crimes.
Kano State, one of the most densely populated states in Nigeria, continues to grapple with youth restiveness, largely driven by unemployment and limited economic opportunities for its growing young population.
To ensure effective implementation of the Federal Government’s Youth Economic Intervention and De-radicalization Programme in Kano, the Secretary to the State Government has inaugurated a steering committee, tasked with identifying, profiling, and enrolling qualified beneficiaries across the state.
The SSG urges members of the committee comprising eminent sons and daughters of Kano to discharge their responsibilities with absolute fairness.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sports Development, Sani Musa says the programme goes beyond rehabilitation, but also focusing on economic empowerment to deter them from crime and social delinquency.
The Federal Government’s Youth Economic Intervention and De-radicalization Programme complements Kano State’s ongoing Operation Safe Corridor initiative, both of which seek to steer young people away from violent activities.
