Kano State Government has announced a donation of N1 million each to the families of the 22 athletes who lost their lives in a motor accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The government is also planning to distribute food items and other relief materials to the affected families.
The State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam disclosed this during a visit to Nasarawa Hospital where bodies of the deceased were deposited.
The Deputy Governor described the incident as a heartbreaking loss not only to Kano State but to the entire nation.
He noted that the deceased were young, patriotic athletes who had proudly represented the state at a national event aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
