Media scholars and veterans in the broadcast industry in Kano State, North-West Nigeria have called on chief executives of broadcast stations in the state to do all within their reach to ensure that only contents that promote peace and development in the state are broadcast on their channels.
Their positions were advanced at a one-day sensitization and interactive workshop organized by the Kano Film Academy in collaboration with the Kano State Ministry Of Information for Chief Executives of radio and television stations operating in the state.
Statistics made available by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) indicate that Kano state is home to twenty-seven radio stations and nine television stations with many of the radio stations said to have used their platforms to broadcast unprofessional content sometimes.

The head of Mass Communication department at the Bayaro University Kano, Professor Mainasara Kurfi who was the lead guest speaker, emphasizes the need for the practice of developmental journalism.
Veteran broadcaster, Ahmed Aminu who chaired the technical session noted that the current crop of broadcasters in Kano state needs mentorship to stay professional and ethical.
The one-day programme which was well attended by the CEOs of broadcast stations in Kano State, representatives from the NBC, civil society organizations, and the Police, had the state’s Ministry of Information making a case for effective reportage of the Kano state government’s activities.
