With less than 24 hours to January 1, 2020, authorities in Kano State, North-West Nigeria say enforcement of the directive by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to ban opposite sex from riding in the same tricycle will now only begin after series of public enlightenment.
Director-General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr. Aliu Musa did not, however, give any new date when the ban will come into force.
Nonetheless, the Board says when enforced, violation of the ban will attract a fine, flogging and total ban from driving.

AIT gathered that the State Government may have suspended the ban largely due to the running battle it has with tricycle operators.
The State Government recently imposed a tax and compulsory installation of trackers on tricycles operating in the state which both cost N26,000. These stringent conditions have met stiff resistance from the tricycle operators.
It is believed that as soon as the issue is resolved between the State Government and the tricycle operators, enforcement of the ban on opposite sex riding on the same tricycle will commence.
It will be recalled that the Board had earlier fixed Wednesday, January 1, 2020, to begin enforcement of the ban.
