Hundreds of protesters from the Kapam community in Chikun Local Government Area blocked the entrance to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company this Friday.

The protesters are demanding compensation for damages caused by a toxic chemical discharge from the refinery.

Tensions were high as crowds of protesters, mostly women from Kapam, blocked the roads to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, holding placards and displaying dead crop leaves.

Their voices were filled with anger and desperation as they chanted and demanded justice.

An elderly woman who joined the protest expressed the community’s anguish. She and the other women are demanding justice and compensation.

They insist that the refinery must take responsibility for its actions and ensure that such incidents never happen again.

Residents of Kapam estimate that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has resulted in financial losses amounting to millions of naira.

So far, the management of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company has remained silent. They have not issued any statement regarding the toxic discharge and its impact on the Kapam community.

The Kapam community remains determined to have their voices heard and has vowed to continue their protest until justice is served.
