Katsina Arrest: Customs apprehends police officer for smuggling items worth 43 million naira in one month

A suspected Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, Sirajo Abdulkadir, has been arrested by the officers and men of the Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, for smuggling 25 bags of 50 kilograms of foreign parboiled rice, two cartons of spaghetti and macaroni concealed in a vehicle with various suspicious inscriptions on it.

The Acting Customs Area Comptroller in Katsina, Dalha Wada, who disclosed this to journalists while briefing on the achievements recorded by the command between February 1 and March 30, said items worth 43 million Naira in Duty Paid Value were also intercepted.

Displaying the car the suspected policeman was nabbed with, Deputy Comptroller Wada, said he was arrested along the Katsina-Kano Highway.

The Acting Katsina Customs Area Comptroller added that the suspect was apprehended with a police identification card with the rank of an Assistant Superintendent Of Police, with 4 different identify cards which include, Citizen for Peace, First Aid Mission of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Agric Produce Dealers, NAAPD, and IMAN, Federal Representative of Nigeria Taskforce, Kaduna State.

Other items found in the suspect’s possession which have since been handed over to the police in the state for further investigation are a ballistic jacket, a handcuff, an Assistant Superintendent of Police’s rank badge, and a can suspected to be tear gas.

Wada further said, during the period under review, 4 used vehicles, 432 bags of foreign rice worth 10.5 million Naira, 309 cartons of spaghetti, 68 jerricans of vegetable oil, 400 bags of Tiger nuts, 55 cartons of macaroni and bales of second-hand clothing among others, worth about 43 million Naira in Duty Paid Value, were intercepted.

The Katsina Customs boss also handed over 253 cartons of intercepted animal drugs to the National Agency for food administration and control, NAFDAC, for further necessary action.
