A total of 11 persons, including a lawyer, Barrister Nura Hassan Wagini have lost their lives, while 13 others sustained injuries in a fresh suspected bandits attack at Wagini village in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, in a Short Message Service, SMS, also said the injured are currently receiving and responding to treatment at different facilities.

He also added that the police and other security agencies have been fully deployed to the area to keep law and order and to ensure that the people go about their normal activities.

Buba further said the security agencies have gone in pursuit of the bandits.

The spokesman of the command Superintendent Gambo Isah in an update in a separate statement, named 2 of the communities to include Yanturaku and Katoge.

Although the immediate cause of the attack is still unknown at the time of filing this report, a source in the area confirmed that it occurred late Tuesday night and lasted into the early hours of Wednesday, with dozens of houses and vehicles burnt.

He added that about 5 communities were torched in what seemed to be a coordinated attack by the suspected bandits.

ait. live gathered that the gunmen stormed the neighborhoods in their numbers, equipped with sophisticated weapons, and in their usual commando ways, shooting sporadically into the air, before going from house to house, looting victims of their valuables and harassing the residents.

Batsari is among the 13 frontline local government areas bedeviled by the activities of bandits, and currently among areas where telecommunication services have been shut.
