Katsina banditry: Police arrest notorious kidnapper, rescue 3 victims

Police in Katsina State have succeeded in arresting 19-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim, a member of a notorious bandit and kidnap for ransom syndicate terrorizing Safana, Batsari, Danmusa, and Kurfi Area Councils of the state rescuing three victims.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the Command, SP Gambo Isah, and obtained by AIT, the arrested Ibrahim had led other members of his syndicate on September 3, on motorbikes, all armed with AK 47 rifles, on an attack on Dagarawa and Kudewa villages both of Safana and Kurfi council respectively and kidnapped three persons.

According to the statement, the names of those abducted and rescued are: 32-year-old Ashiru Ibrahim of Dagarawa village of Safana LGA of Katsina state, 50-year-old Duduwa Audu, and 45-year-old Asiya Saleh both of Kudewa village, Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State and took them into Rugu forest.

Isah hinted that nemesis caught up with the suspect when he fell into a bobby trap and was apprehended by SARS operatives after he collected the sum of Two Hundred and Forty-one thousand naira, (N241,000) ransom from the relatives of the victims which was recovered.

While stressing that the investigation is ongoing, he added that the three abducted victims were rescued on September 10 at about 9:30 am and have since been reunited with their families after receiving treatment at the Kurfi General Hospital.
