Both the Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils, have again announced the suspension of this year’s annual durbar during the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The suspension was announced in separate statements in Katsina, by the two councils, citing the rising cases of insecurity in the state.
According to the statements, the Emirs of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman and his Daura counterpart, Farouq Umar, expressed concerns over the security situation in parts of the state, saying that the people can only attend the Eid prayers on Saturday.
They, therefore, advised Muslims to continue to pray for the return of peace to the state and country in general.
The Durbar festival dates back hundreds of years, and involves the display of horse riding skills by the districts and the nobility, who pay homage to the Emir on Eid day, known in Katsina as, “Hawan Daushe,” as well as a homage to the Governor, known as, `Hawan Bariki’.
