The Katsina State Emirate Council has suspended the District Head of Kankara, Yusuf Lawal, over alleged involvement in aiding and abating banditry in his domain.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Emirate Council, Mamman Ifo, on behalf of the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman.
The statement, dated April 30, did not reveal categorically his role but said that the suspension is with immediate effect.
However, in an interview monitored from the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, the Secretary to the Emirate Council, Mamman Ifo, said the District Head has been suspended for allegedly aiding banditry in his domain.

He also said the emirate took the decision, following complaints from security agencies, and some residents of the district head’s domain.
Ifo said that a powerful committee has been constituted by the emirate, to investigate the allegations thoroughly, while his suspension lasted.
This is the first time, a district head is being suspended in Katsina State, ever since the beginning of banditry.
