The Katsina State government has debunked claims circulating in some online social media platforms that, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has directed the shut down of telecommunication services.

A statement by the Director-General, Social Media to the Governor, Al-Ameen Isa, described the publication as fake.

In the publication seen by our reporter, the NCC directed that telecommunication services be shut down from Monday, September 6 to 20.

According to the press statement, Isa said, the Katsina State Government does not foreclose the possibility of taking any measures that will bring lasting peace to the state.

However, he said the government has not yet taken any decision to shut down telecommunication services in the state.

The Social Media aide to the Governor further said the people will be given adequate notice before such a decision is taken by the government.

The clarification is coming on the heels of a similar directive that has taken effect in neighbouring Zamfara State, to enable security agencies to deal with the security challenges bedevilling the state and the Northwest region in general.
