Katsina State Government has donated 50 Hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Health, for the expansion of the Daura General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

The Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Muntari Lawal, disclosed this, when he received members of the committee
from
the Federal Ministry of Health on a facility assessment, for the conversion of General Hospital, Daura, to a Federal Medical Centre.

In a statement by his Director press, Abdullahi Yar’adua, Lawal directed the State Ministry of Health to liaise with the Ministry of Lands and Survey to immediately start the demarcation of the land in Daura as well as the process of issuance of Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Ministry of Health.

He reiterated Government’s commitment towards ensuring the smooth and successful upgrading of the General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

The Secretary to Government said the Governor, Aminu Masari led administration has attached priority to some key sectors of which health is one of
them because of the direct services it renders to the people, especially at the grassroots.

Earlier, the Team Leader and the Director of Human Resource Management of the Federal Ministry of Health Hassan Sallau said they were in Katsina for the Facility Assessment at General Hospital Daura, which has always been the first stage of conversion of any General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

He explained that the assessment was in three areas which include infrastructure, equipment and human resource revealing that while at the Daura hospital, the Team discovered that the premises cannot accommodate the needed structures that will be erected to make the facility a full-fledged Medical Center.

Sallau, however, said that they were pleased on visiting the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk who directed the State Commissioner for Health to lead them to inspect a virgin 50 hectares of land which was found to be very suitable for the project.

He said that the Federal Ministry of Health is ready to embark on the project as soon as the required process of handing and taking over the land was
completed.
