Following the fire incident that broke out at the Katsina government house known as the ‘General Muhammadu Buhari Government House’ early Monday morning, September 2, the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has set up a committee to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the fire destroyed a part of the complex.
It was gathered that firefighters from both federal and state departments swung into action to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the office.
Meanwhile, the Director of Press to the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Yar’adua, who disclosed this in a statement, said the fire damaged the mini chamber attached to the Governor’s office but was brought under control by firefighters from both federal and state services before it spread.
He added that the committee will also identify lapses if any that led to the incident, recommend ways to avert future occurrence, and give any other recommendation that is essential in the circumstances.
The statement further added that the committee was given the mandate to co-opt any person(s) that could help the committee discharge its assignment and submit the report within a week.
Members of the panel include the Head of Civil Service of the State, Commissioners for Works, Housing and Transport, Budget and Planning, Justice, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Information and Culture.
Others are the Permanent Secretary, Government House, State Commander, Federal Fire Service while the Governor’s Office will provide the secretary for the Committee.
According to the statement, the governor expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to thoroughly investigate the incident and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
