Katsina State government has approved the repatriation of 7,893 Almajirai from the state to their respective states, or countries of origin.

Two hundred and fifty-two of the total number are from the Niger Republic.

Governor Aminu Masari gave the approval at the Weekly State Executive Council Meeting.

The repatriation is the outcome of a committee on the identification and collation of data of Almajirai schools, which was charged with the responsibility to identify Almajiri schools in the state, their locations, names of the pupils, names of the tutors, and to repatriate the non-indigenes.

This is coming after about 780 Katsina State indigenes engaged in Quranic studies across the three states of Kano, Nasarawa, and Gombe were repatriated back to the state.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hamza Suleiman, told ait.live that only those that were identified as non-indigenes will be repatriated, and the reforms of Islamic education in the state will soon be amended.

He also announced that the Katsina State Executive Council has approved the sum of three-point three billion Naira, as part of measures to mitigate flooding across the state.
