Suspected bandits have released the 15-year-old daughter of former Director of Public Affairs, National Broadcasting Commission and former Managing Director of the Katsina State Television, KTTV, Laila Ahmed after twenty-nine days in captivity.

Laila and her father, Ahmed Abdulkadir, were both abducted from their home, in the Bakori Local Government Area of the state on September 6.

Abdulkadir was said to have been released on the evening of Thursday, September 10.

There was no report of any ransom paid while the bandits held onto his daughter Laila who was said to have been sick.

Sources say the bandits had earlier requested 70 million Naira ransom, 50 million for the release of Abdulkadir himself, and 20 million Naira for the release of his daughter.

Confirming Laila’s release, a family source says she was released in the early hours of October 5 but did not say if the ransom was paid.

When contacted for comments, the spokesman of the Police Command, Superintendent Gambo Isah said, the command is yet to get a formal report due to the seizure of the phone network in the Bakori Local Government Area.

Even with the earlier release of Abdulkadir and now his 15-year-old daughter, Laila, 11 Hizburrahim Islamiyya pupils and one of their teachers abducted from the Faskari Local Government Area of the state are still in captivity after 49 days.

Also still in captivity are the first wife and 2 sons of the Member representing Bakori in the State Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Kurami.
They were abducted on September 5.

The younger sister of the Deputy Speaker of the state’s Assembly, Dalhatu Tafoki, from Faskari was also abducted September 6, while 3 sons of the Deputy Provost of the Isa Kaita College of Education, are still in captivity as at the time of filing this report.
