The Chairman Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Salisu Majigiri, has debunked claims by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, that it operated 232 accounts, during former Governor Ibrahim Shema’s tenure.

Majigiri said this in reaction to an earlier report by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Faruk Jobe, that the government of Aminu Masari has closed 232 accounts inherited from the PDP and recovered 4 billion Naira in 2015.

Majigiri who was the Chief of Staff to former Governor Shema, also challenged the state government to publish the names and operators of the said 232 accounts, allegedly inherited from the party’s administration in 2015, in national dailies, for clarity.

According to the chairman of the party, the PDP is also challenging the state government to explain to the citizens of the state, the type of transactions that took place in the 232 bank accounts, within the period under review.

The major opposition party further claimed that, rather than the PDP to be accused, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, should explain to the people and Nigerians, what happened to the 18.5 billion Naira it left in the government coffers in 2015, during the handover.

According to Majigiri, “what the commissioner said is not true. We have not left 232 accounts in several banks in Katsina to the best of our knowledge. They didn’t inherit 232 accounts from us. He must publish the names of the 232 bank accounts and operators of the accounts in national dailies because there is no account being operated without a signatory”.

Majigiri argued that it has shown that the PDP left a total sum of 14.5 billion Naira, including the 4 billion the Budget And Economic Commissioner said they recovered from the 232 accounts, yet, no single 3 billion Naira project is ready to be commissioned in the state.
