Katsina Police confirms shooting incident involving personnel of Customs Service

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed a shooting incident in Mani Local Government Area of the state, involving personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service, leaving one person injured.

Spokesman of the command, Superintendent Gambo Isah told AIT News that, the incident occured at Fadi Gurje village of Mani Local Government Area.

According to Isah, the yet to be identified personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service who was inside a patrol vehicle, stormed the village, fired several shots into the air and escaped to an unknown destination.

He said, as a result of the action, a 35-year-old Auwal Sani was shot on the leg.

Isah added that the victim has been rushed to the Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina, and is responding to treatment.

The police image maker further said efforts are on to know the identity of the erring officers and bring them to justice.

He said, the Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, has called for calm in the affected community, appealing to them to go about their lawful businesses, as the force is working closely with the Nigerian Customs Service to resolve the problem and bring the perpetrators to book.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Customs Area Command, Danbaba Isah, denied receiving any report of the incident but promised to contact the enforcement unit at the area and revert as soon as possible.

It is the third time in 2021 that personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service are involved in some accidental discharge while pursuing smugglers.
