Katsina Police repel terrorists’ attack, rescue victims of Human Trafficking

Police in Katsina say they have succeeded in repelling and gunning down one suspected terrorist who launched an attack on Gago village of Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the Police Superintendent Gambo Isah who said this during a press briefing at the command headquarters also said they succeeded in rescuing 15 victims of human trafficking in Daura.

According to Superintendent Gambo Isah, a distress call was received by the Area Commander Dutsinma that terrorists numbering about 40 on motocycles, armed with AK 47 rifles attacked Gago village in Dutsinma Local Government Area and rustled fifty cows belonging to Ibrahim Maikudi.

He added that, the area commander led a team of Policemen to the area, engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle, successfully repelled the terrorists and neutralized one of them.

Isah added that, the operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the team, made the terrorists to abandoned their heinous mission and fled the scene.

The police image maker further said that, in the course of scanning the scene, one AK 47 rifle with 5 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and all the fifty (50) rustled cows were recovered.

He said many of the terrorists escaped the scene with gun shots wounds as search parties are still combing the area with a view to arresting the fleeing terrorists.

According to Isah, the Commissioner of Police Idrisu Dabban has commended the efforts of the personnel for repelling the attack while urging members of the community to report to the nearest security formation any person found with suspicious injury.

Meanwhile, the command also said it bursted and rescued 15 victims of human trafficking from Baraji Quarters in Daura Local Government Area.

Isah said the victims made up of 8 females and 7 males conveyed in a vehicle who were bound for Libya enroute Niger Republic upon sighting the Police, the driver abandoned the victims and took to his heels and ran into the bush.

He added that, the victims who are between the ages of 18 and 30 are from Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Imo, Lagos, Abuja and Abia States respectively.

The rescued victims have since been handed over to the zonal office of the National Agency For the Prohibition of Traffic In Persons, NAPTIP, for further investigations and possible reuniting them with their families.
