Katsina state Govt. steps up security in schools

Katsina State Government says it has stepped up security strategies in all the secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the state to avoid a recurrence of the school children abduction from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara where over 300 students were abducted in December, 2020.

Governor Aminu Masari who stated this at a strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders towards enhancing campus safety and security in Katsina State said Government has put in place perimeter fencings including barb wires, watch towers, security lightings and other non kinetic efforts.

The strategic engagement was organised by the office of the Security Adviser on Security matters to the State Governor.

Governor Aminu Masari who was represented by his Deputy, Mannir Yakubu said the State government is alive to its responsibility in terms of securing the lives and property of the people especially to students in the state.

Masari while noting that security is everyone’s business also urged tertiary institutions to device other means to effectively secure their schools even as the government is doing its best.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education Bashir Ruwan-Godiya said they have devised means to ensure safe campuses for the students and teachers to ensure effective teaching and learning by putting in place security committees in all the schools.

The convener of the strategic engagement and Special Adviser to the Governor on security matters, Ibrahim Katsina hinted that the essence of the meeting is to deliberate with all heads of security and institutions to find lasting solutions for schools security especially, community participation.

Four papers were presented at the strategic engagement which include security tips against students abduction by the Director State Security Services, enhancing police community relations towards promotion of campus peace and security by the Commissioner of Police, the dangers of drug abuse among students by the state commander of the NDLEA and road traffic safety rules and students activities by the sector commander, FRSC.
