KATSINA

In a bid to improve electricity supply and boost growth and industrialization, the Katsina State Government has reached an agreement with a France based company – Ocean Solutions Energie – to provide renewable energy solutions for the state

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was secured in Paris at the weekend, laying out the objectives of the agreement.

Ocean Solution Energie, represented by its Chairman, Minkaila Salami, specializes in the development of renewable energy projects in Africa.

The company seeks to advance sustainable energy solutions and support Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

Governor of Katsina state, Dikko Radda, who signed the MoU along with his Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Hafiz Ahmed revealed plans to establish a mini hydroelectric power station as part of the pilot project.

The initiative, according to the governor, will focus on providing reliable, renewable energy to local communities and will serve as a model for future hydroelectric developments across the State’s 43 dams.

According to him, “Katsina State Government is committed to providing financial support to ensure the successful installation and long-term sustainability of the power station”.

The pilot project will be located in Danja Dam and will be designed to provide energy to local infrastructure, including irrigation systems, a water treatment plant, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) and households.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed says the MoU aligns with the Electricity Act of 2023 which emphasized decentralized energy solutions, integration of renewable sources into Nigeria power grid and fulfill the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 on affordable and clean energy.
