Katsina women want displaced children taken off the streets

Katsina

Women in Katsina are calling on the State Government to as a matter of urgency, take off displaced women and children roaming the streets for food and shelter.

The women, under the name, ‘League of women voters of Nigeria,’ led by their Chairperson, Mariya Kassim, also want to know the plans of the state government, ahead of the April 11 Local Government elections, to carry women along.

The women who disclosed these during a press conference to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, also condemned the legislators for not passing a single bill concerning women.

They added that the action is not acceptable, and is inappropriate to the Nigerian women, being the two-thirds majority of people that voted them into office.

The group also saluted and appreciated the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, for throwing her weight behind the Bill before the National Assembly, seeking to increase more seats for women in politics. They called on the Katsina State Government, to immediately look into the plights of internally displaced women and children, roaming the streets as a result of insecurity.

While reminding the menfolk of the successes recorded by some women in the country and the world at large, the group also called on women to be united and use their number to vie for positions, which they promised to do, until their struggles are realised.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration is Equal for Equal,” and the women believe that, if given the opportunity, they will bring about the needed development in the country.
