Now to what can only be referred to as a mass wedding. Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has presided over the wedding of three hundred couples in the state.

A total dowry of N54 million at N180,000 for each couple was paid by the government.

The Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, represented by the Magajin Garin Gwandu, Aminullah Umar, served as the guardian for the brides and gave them out in the marriage.

The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stood in for the grooms.

The governor announced that an even larger event would be held next year, as part of the social responsibility of the administration.

The three hundred men and women were subjected to genotype tests, while the women were examined to ensure that none was pregnant.

Sets of room furniture, including beds and beddings, as well as household utensils were provided free for each couple by the government.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, gave each couple fifty thousand Naira; thirty thousand for the groom and twenty for the bride, amounting to N15 million.

The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Birnin Kebbi, Sheikh Mukhtar Abdullahi, solemnised the marriage.

Islamic scholars advise the couples to be persevering, show love to one another, remain loyal to the marriage institution, uphold trust and justice, and sincerity, and discharge the obligations incumbent on husband and wife.
