The Member representing Suru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Faruq Maisudan has begun a tree planting initiative in the Suru Local Government Area.
The initiative is aimed to combat desertification, preserve the environment, and mitigate climate change.
Maisudan says, “I have decided to champion the campaign as part of my contribution to preserving the environment and mitigating climate change. I have also resolved to collaborate with non-governmental organisations, (NGOs), government agencies and individuals, to raise awareness about environmental challenges and possible solutions. I take it as my modest contribution to assist the government in achieving the sustainable development goals in the area of climate change,” he said.

Maisudan maintains that his effort is to combat desertification and erosion, improve afforestation and plant more than 1,000 seedlings across the local government.
The District Head of Dakingari, Jafaru Haliru-Mutube, commended the initiative, saying that it would go a long way in improving afforestation and conservation.
He said his palace would work hand in hand with the constituency representative in his campaign, by mobilising the community leaders, to educate their subjects, on the importance of tree planting, to preserve the environment.
