Labour Party Presidential spokesperson during the 2023 elections, Kenneth Okonkwo has abandoned the party and its candidate, Peter Obi.

Okonkwo made his intention known in an article he titled “Political Journey To A Great Nigeria,”.

The nollywood actor who turned-politician said he decided to excuse himself from the party following what he called failure of Peter Obi to proffer a lasting solution to the party’s internal crisis.

According to him, Peter Obi refused to disassociate himself from the “shenanigans and criminal” activities of the National Working Committee led by Julius Abure.

Okonkwo said he is irreversibly committed to a great Nigeria built on equity justice, and fairness, where every citizen will be free and able to aspire to any position or level in life without regard to primordial sentiments.

Okonkwo who is yet to announce his new party says he is consulting with every like-minded people to determine the next step of his political journey, which does not include joining APC or PDP for now.

“It’s obvious that the APC or PDP, as presently constituted, do not have what it takes to lead”, he stated.

He said Nigeria needs a solid political party with a solid grassroots base, to be able to wrestle power from what he described as “kakistocrats and kleptocrats”.

To him, the people need a decisive leader who will be able to build such a party of integrity and character from the grassroots because eventually, the majority of the people that will populate a government will emerge from the political party of the leader.
