A Kenyan athlete Peter Mwaniki defeated hundreds of other athletes in the Abeokuta 10 kilometers Marathon race after completing the race in 28 minutes,14 seconds.
Athletes from China, Ethiopia, and Kenya who participated in the 10 kilometres marathon race held in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital says they are satisfied with the standard of the competition.
The marathon race which was held as part of activities marking the 80th birthday of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo commenced from the Onikolobo area of the state and terminated at the Alake’s palace in Ake.

The Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Bukola Olopade, in an interview with journalists said the competition was geared towards exposing Nigerian athletes to the outside world and has come to stay.
Francis James came first in the Nigeria category, winning a cash prize of one million naira.
In the female categories, Kipsibor shamilla of keyan came first while Patience Daylod of Nigeria came first in the Local female category.

It was all Kenyan affairs as they dominated both the men and women Lotus Bank Abeokuta 10km race at the weekend with Peter Nwaniki coasting home at 28.14 sec to beat compatriots Kipyeko Kenedy and Kibi Frederick to the grand prize.
In an exciting race organised by Nilayo Sports Management to coincide with the birthday anniversary of His Royal Majesty, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo 111, the Kenyans showed why they are the dominant force in the long distance races.

In the women elite race, Shamila Kipsirir beat compatriot Viola Sepkosgei to the second place with a time of 33.22 seconds while Patience Daylop of Nigeria settled for the third place.
