Kidnapped Edo Catholic Seminary Rector Regains Freedom After 11 days

Released Rector of Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary Father Thomas Oyode

The Rector of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivhianokpodi in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Reverend Father Thomas Oyode who was kidnapped on October 27, 2024 during an attack on the Seminary has regained freedom from his abductors.

His release was announced in a statement on Thursday by the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa which disclosed that the priest was released at about 7.00pm on Wednesday, 6th November, 2024, at a village close to Ajaokuta, in neighbouring Kogi State.

The Police in Edo State is yet to confirm the latest development, which comes after the clergy had spent about 11 days in the hands of his abductors.

Thomas Oyode, a Catholic Priest and the Rector of the immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Agenebode was hijacked and taken away on the 27th of October 2024, when the gunmen attacked the premises of the Seminary during Benediction Service.
