Judicial activities in Benin City, Edo State capital, have been paralysed as members of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, boycott courts over the abduction of Appeal Court judge, Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme.
A visit to the Court of Appeal and other courts in Benin City by AIT on Thursday reveals total compliance to the boycott directive which took effect on Wednesday as the court halls were locked while lawyers were absent in all courts visited.
Chairman of the task force set up by the Benin branch of the NBA to ensure compliance and public relations officer, Douglas Ogbankwa, also corroborated the compliance level in the state while decrying the rate of kidnapping that has become rampant in the state and the country at large.
Noting the effect the boycott will have on court activities while the compliance lasts, secretary of the NBA, Benin branch, said it will be the needed nudge to rejig the security apparatus to deal with security lapses in the state.
Justice Chioma Nwosu Iheme was kidnapped nine days ago on the Benin, Agbor road while her Police orderly was shot dead.
The boycott directive ends on Friday.
