Niger State police command says it has intensified investigations to arrest the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of a food vendor, Amaye for alleged blasphemy.
The Police Command through its spokesman Wasi’u Abiodun says it condemns any act of jungle justice and urged members of the public to remain calm.
He added that as efforts are being made to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested, efforts are being made to restore normalcy to the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident happened in nearby community of Igwama, where the woman, who is also a Muslim and well known by residents as a food seller reportedly exchanged words with a young man said to be her nephew.
The young man jokingly told her that he wanted to marry her to “fulfil the Sunnah”, which allegedly made the woman make statements considered blasphemous, causing outrage among locals.
