Over one thousand business and residential buildings have been flooded, some completely washed away with thousands of people displaced as a result of flood in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Victor Omofaye who went round some parts of Lokoja to assess the level of damage caused by the flood, called for urgent intervention by the federal government, noting that the state lacks the capacity to handle the devastation.

With schools flooded, business and residential areas taken over by water and aquatic animals, crossing from Lokoja city center to the eastern part of Kogi State and beyond is only possible with a canoe.
Residents are counting their losses and worries. Kogi State commissioner for Environment Victor Omofaye and his information counterpart, Kingsley Fanwo are on ground to see the level of devastation.
There is already a serious humanitarian crisis that require help from government and international bodies.
The Kogi State government says it does not have the financial capacity to address the menace.
