Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has ordered the immediate demolition of shanties and closure of brothels in the state.

The governor has also banned the use of facemasks in public places, for proper identification of persons.

The decision was reached at a high-level security meeting with local government chairmen and traditional rulers, as part of measures to curb the resurgence of criminal activities in the state.

The ambush, killing of three policemen and five local vigilantes last Saturday, prompted the meeting with traditional rulers and local government chairmen from the twenty-one local government areas of the state.

The measures, according to the governor, are the first step towards tackling the current security breaches in the state.

Governor Bello warned those harbouring criminal elements in the state, that they will be made to face the law, regardless of their status in society.

The governor also told the local government chairmen that he will no longer tolerate further security breaches in their areas.

The registration, profiling of motorcycle and tricycle riders, indiscriminate leasing of land to so-called investors and regulation of mining activities in the state are other measures being deployed to curb security challenges in the confluence state.
