Kogi Governor denies importing thugs into Ondo State for election violence

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, says his attention has been drawn to the statement released by the National Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Ondo Governorship Election alleging that he imported thugs into Ondo State to rig Saturday’s election. Bello says the statement is not true, and can never be true.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mohammed Onogwu, said it is important to put the records straight and make it abundantly clear that the said statement is a fake, unfounded, spurious, politically motivated, and mere figment of the writer’s imagination aimed at tarnishing the good image of the Governor and by extension, the good people of Kogi State.

The statement noted that Governor Bello, who is a true democrat and firm believer in free and fair elections, harbours no thug neither did he import any thugs to Ondo State to rig nor compromise the governorship election.

Onogwu in the statement further hinted that Bello as a democrat, who firmly believes in the sanctity of the ballot and has demonstrated that by winning his re-election in a free and fair manner, should not be dragged into public opprobrium through such satanic allegations.

The statement said that it is worth noting that Governor Bello’s role in the Ondo State governorship elections which culminated with campaign rallies on Tuesday alongside other colleagues to drum support for the re-election of one of their own, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was based on his commitment as a dedicated party man.

It expressed dismay why some desperate elements who have viewed the outcome of the election as unfavourable are trying to weave a conspiracy theory linking the Governor with an alleged importation of thugs into Ondo State to rig the election.

He urged the PDP to focus on the elections as expected of democrats, rather than spreading lies inorder to wipe up sentiments.

The statement urged members of the public to disregard the said statement by the PDP National Campaign Council for Ondo Governorship Election as it is fake, unfounded, and the last kick of a dying horse.
