The Bassa-Nge people of Kogi State are calling on both the Federal and State Governments to urgently address what they described as decades of neglect and infrastructural decay in Bassa Local Government Area, despite its proximity to Lokoja, the state capital.
According to them, the continued marginalization of their community is unacceptable, hence their demand for immediate government intervention.
The people of Bassa Local Government Area in Kogi State told journalists that for years, they have lived without the benefits of meaningful governance despite their immense contributions to the economy of the state.
Leaders of the community, under the Bassa-Nge Community Development Network, are therefore crying out against what they termed deliberate underdevelopment.
The group highlighted a long list of challenges ranging from dilapidated schools and abandoned road projects to a collapsing healthcare system.
According to them, particular concern are the Anyigba–Dekina–Shintaku Road and the Lokoja–Shintaku Bridge — both described as lifelines for economic growth and access to services.
As Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections, the Bassa-Nge leaders say development — not politics — will determine their choices at the polls.
