The people of Oyo-Ita community in Kogi State are said to have deserted their ancestral homes following what they termed consistent killings and abduction of their people by suspected bandits terrorizing the area.
Just this Monday, hundreds of women and youths from Oyo-Iwa Community took to the streets in protest, stripping themselves half naked to register their grievances and possibly get the authorities to intervene and save them from suspected bandits.
The protesters blocked the road leading to their community carrying placards with inscriptions such as “our people are victims of repeated kidnap”, “Oyo-Iwa is sidelined in development” and many others.
The villagers said they can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed over fear of attack by suspected bandits, citing the recent kidnap of the Princess of Oyo-Ita community, Ruth Owonibi as one of the many cases of abductions in their community.
