The All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi, on Tuesday threw caution to the wind when he referred to political leaders in Abia State, including the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, as “drunkards”.

Adeyemi’s outburst on the floor of the Senate disrupted proceedings, with lawmakers wondering what could have triggered his anger.

In the mild drama that ensued, Adeyemi took a swipe at political leaders in Abia State, accusing them of neglecting the basic needs of the people.

This was as Senate debated a motion on Safe School Initiatives by Senator Stephen Odey, (PDP, Cross River North).

While praising efforts by his own Governor, Yahaya Bello, to draw development closer to the people; Adeyemi lashed angrily at political leaders in Abia State, in a way that seemed to suggest there was more to it.

Investigation however showed that Adeyemi may have been reacting to a video on the social media of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, criticizing the Governor of Kogi State.

Abaribe who knew instantly that Adeyemi’s statements were directed at him, to pass on as a message to his Governor, denied ever making any statement against Yahaya Bello.

He, therefore, demanded an unreserved apology from Senator Smart Adeyemi, for his scathing remarks against the Governor of Abia State.

It took some time for the drama and the dust it created to simmer enough, for the Senate to return to normal session.
