Senators from Kogi State have apologized to the Senate over the uproar that erupted during the plenary session regarding the relocation of seats.

Senator Isah Jubril (APC, Kogi East) acknowledged that the Senate had acted within its authority and described the reaction as unnecessary.

Speaking on behalf of the Kogi caucus, he apologized and assured his colleagues that such an incident would not happen again.

He emphasized that the Senate operates under established rules, which all members are expected to follow.

Senator Jubril further pleaded for the matter to be put to rest and urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio not to invoke any disciplinary measures.

Senator Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West), citing Order 14 of the Senate Standing Rules, affirmed that the Senate President has the power to reassign seats without prior notice.

Karimi revealed that as Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, he had advised affected senators to remain patient, but Senator Natasha Uduaghan instead resorted to shouting at him during plenary.

He claimed that her actions breached his privileges and were inappropriate for a legislative assembly.

Despite being publicly confronted, Karimi stated that he would not respond citing his upbringing.

He also recounted how he and other Kogi senators had lobbied for Natasha to be appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content after her court victory reinstating her as the senator for Kogi Central.

Karimi urged Natasha to apologize for her conduct on the Senate floor.

In his response, Senate President Akpabio called on senators to remain focused on their legislative duties, assuring them that the issue would be addressed at the appropriate time.

He appealed for forgiveness, urging lawmakers to temper justice with mercy.

Akpabio reiterated that the Senate is governed by laws and constitutional provisions, including seat reassignments.

He described the incident as a “total aberration” and emphasized that anyone seeking to make laws must also be prepared to abide by them.

He urged senators to move past the incident and concentrate on their primary responsibility delivering the dividends of democracy.
