The Kogi state government has begun fumigation of schools across the state as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 when the final year students resume to write their final examinations.
Commissioner for education, Wemi Jones promised compliance with all preventive measures to keep teachers and students safe from the virus.
The commissioner who led the team on the fumigation exercise said the state government will extend it to private schools who lack the capacity to fumigate their premises.
He however warned private school owners against failing to comply with laid down protocols and guidelines before the resumption of students.
Principals of the fumigated schools commended the state government for what they described as timely and necessary action.
Commissioner for environment, Victor Omofaye and a member of the state house of assembly, Idoko Moses Ododo said even though the state has a very low number of COVID-19 cases compared with other states, there is no room for complacency and called for support for government’s fight against the virus.
Following the federal government’s go-ahead for schools to reopen to allow graduating students and pupils write their final exams, Kogi state government has announced Monday, August 10 as resumption date for schools across the state.
