Students of Federal University Lokoja have given the federal government a 72-hour ultimatum to implement the law banning trucks and heavy-duty vehicles from plying the highway during daytime.
The students gave the ultimatum during a peaceful protest on Tuesday in lokoja, the Kogi state capital, over the killing of five students of the Federal University Lokoja by a truck on Monday.
The Students converged on the university’s gate, along the ever busy Abuja-Okene highway, to express their displeasure and anger over Monday’s killing of five of their colleagues by a truck.
The protesters, led by Students Union President Benjamin Timothy, called for immediate government intervention to prevent further loss of lives of students of the federal University, Lokoja.
They also narrated the insecurity faced by students outside the campus due to inadequate hostel accommodation.
The Students Union President threatened they will continue to occupy the highway until their demands, which include the implementation of the law banning trucks and heavy-duty vehicles from plying the highway during daytime, are met.
