The people of Oyo-Iwa community in Kogi state are said to have deserted their ancestral homes following what they termed consistent killings and abductions of their people by suspected bandits terrorizing the area.

On Monday, hundred of Women and Youths from Oyo-Iwa Community took to the streets in protest, stripping themselves half naked to register their grievances and possibly get the authorities to intervene and save them from suspected bandits.

Women and Youths of Oyo-Iwa Community blocked the road leading to their community carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “our people are victims of repeated kidnap”, “Oyo-Iwa is sidelined for development” and many such other issues needing government attention.

They say they can no longer sleep with both eyes closed for fear of attacks by suspected bandits, citing the recent kidnapping of the Princess of the Oyo-Iwa community, Ruth Owonibi, as one of the many cases of abduction in their community.

According to the aggrieved members of the Oyo-Iwa community, the government will have to do something quickly before they are completely wiped out of their ancestral homes.

They also appealed to both the Federal and State Government including well meaning Nigerians and religious leaders to come to their aid and end the insecurity threatening the peace and development of their community.
