After over three hours of screening the Senate has confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun as the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria

Justice Kekere-Ekun said during her screening that she will not tolerate any form of corruption in the judiciary under her watch.

She vowed to instil the highest level of discipline and deal decisively with erring judicial officers who peddle conflicting court judgments and deliberately abuse court processes.

Kekere- Ekun said tough times await social commentators, particularly senior lawyers who make declarative or authoritative comments on cases pending in the courts on radio or television as such actions will also not be tolerated.

She expressed her dissatisfaction with what she described as the disturbing trend of judges indiscriminately granting ex-parte motions.

Kekere-Ekun says the judiciary will embrace technology – including virtual court sittings to speed up cases and advised courts to fine-tune their rules and eliminate unnecessary bottlenecks.

According to her, pre-election matters should terminate at the Court of Appeal to allow the Supreme Court deal with pressing policy matters and pleaded with the National Assembly to amend relevant laws to that effect

She said Alternative Dispute Resolution ( ADR), will also be used to decongest cases at the various courts
Justice Kekere-Ekun disagreed with a suggestion made by Senator Sani Musa that separate courts should be created to handle election and terror related matters, saying such courts will also be congested eventually if the required digitalization of courts across the country is not carried out.
