Abductors of about 300 primary and secondary school students and some of their teachers from Kuriga in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, have been asked to release them unhurt.

The appeal is coming the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman.

The Minister made the appeal alongside the Minister of State, Yusuf Sununu and Permanent Secretary, Did Watson-Jack, at a media briefing in Abuja, the nation’s capital

In the meantime, the Federal Government has deployed security agents for the safe rescue of the kidnapped victims.

Latest report also says two of the abducted students have escaped from terrorists captivity.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris says the abduction of the school children and earlier that of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs at Wurge community in Ngala LGA, Borno State, North-East Nigeria “are utterly unacceptable and go against all the fundamental values of humanity. The government stands resolutely against any form of violence or coercion targeted at innocent civilians, especially the most vulnerable among us. Our children deserve to seek education in conditions devoid of harm or threat of harm, and any threat to their security is a direct attack on the future of our country”.

He says “the government will spare no effort in our pursuit of justice for the victims and in our determination to hold perpetrators of such heinous acts accountable to the full extent of the law”.

The Federal Government urges the public “to remain calm but vigilant, and to provide any relevant information that may assist the security agencies. Collective action and solidarity are essential if we are to effectively combat the menace of banditry, insurgency, and insecurity in our country”.
