Former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, says the almajiri system currently in practice in parts of the country where school age children roam the streets does not reflect what the Islamic religion stands for.
Kwankwaso said this during the commissioning of a Quranic research centre he built and donated to the public in commemoration of his sixty seventh birthday anniversary, held in Kano, North West Nigeria.

Arabic and Quranic education is undeniably an integral part of the culture of the average Muslim in northern Nigeria, where from a younger age, Muslim children are introduced to this education.
Unfortunately, many parents allow their children to wander uncoordinatedly on the streets begging for food, a development that has made many almajiri children vulnerable to different hazards.
While commemorating his sixty-seventh birthday anniversary, former presidential candidate of the NNPP Rabiu Kwankwaso with the donation of this quranic center to the public, wants the style of Islamic and Quranic studies modernized.
