Kwara Government slams curfew on Offa Erin-Ile communities following renewed clashes

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has imposed a curfew on neighbouring Offa and Erin-Ile communities following renewed hostilities ait.live gathered that the reported clashes between members of transport unions in the area, which started on Wednesday, escalated with one person feared dead.

There were reports of gunshots and free use of dangerous weapons during the mayhem while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office in the area was reportedly set ablaze by hoodlums.

The origin of the crisis is believed to be a face-off; between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) over a parcel of land declared as ‘unity land ‘between the neighbouring towns of Offa and Erin-Ile.

Sources said the state government had disallowed transporters from using the land as a motor park over previous crisis which had led to communal clashes.

A statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the curfew will be in force between 6pm. and 8am. until further notice
