On the first working day of 2020, bulldozers of the Kwara State Government pulled down the family house of former Senate President Bukola Saraki in Ilorin, the state capital.
This follows revocation of the property title by the State Governor Abdulrazak Abdulrahman who says the land on which the house was built was unlawfully allocated to a private firm Asa Investments Limited without any record of payment to the state government.

Eyewitnesses claim that officials of the Kwara State Government demolished the building in the middle of the night.
Residents in the area confirm that gunshots and teargas were fired into the building ostensibly to scare protesters away.

The first attempt to demolish the structures was made on the eve of the new year but it was unsuccessful.
