The Edo state local council elections which took place across the 18 local government areas of was greeted with pockets of protest, boycott over alleged non-availability of voting materials and manipulation of the entire exercise particularly within Benin metropolis.
Labour Larty in Oredo and Ikpoba okha Oredo Local Government Areas embarked on a protest calling for the cancellation of the elections as well as the scrapping of the state electoral commission.
As early as 8am on Saturday, residents came out in their large numbers to cast their votes but were disappointed with the late arrival of voting materials. Voting however, started in some areas at about 12:30 pm with manual accreditation of voters.

Labour Party chairmanship candidates in Oredo and Ikpoba Okha Local Government Areas reportedly staged a walkout on the entire exercise due to alleged manipulation and harassment.
They later protested to the Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Centre expressing their displeasure over the manner the election was conducted and calling for the total cancellation of the polls.
Voting was still ongoing in some areas in Benin City as at the time of filing this report.
