The crisis rocking the Labour Party shows no signs of abating anytime soon. Just yesterday, the leader of one faction of the party, Julius Abure, announced the suspension of the party’s only elected Governor, Alex Otti of Abia State from the party.
Well Governor Otti has reacted to the reports of his suspension from the party by calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to quickly arrest Mr. Abure for impersonation.
It’s groundhog day in the Labour Party, with the three main factions of the party throwing barbs at each other almost on a daily basis.
On Wednesday, the Julius Abure led faction of the party announced the suspension of the governor of abia state, Alex otti and five others.
This happened at the same time, another faction which includes former presidential candidate, Peter Obi and governor Alex Otti, was setting up a panel to investigate Julius Abure for alleged impersonation for claiming leadership of the party even after the supreme Court judgement.
In a swift reaction, Julius Abure in another briefing, announced the suspension of governor, Alex Otti and five others.
Mr Peter Obi’s faction which is led by Nenadi Usman as well as the Julius Abure led faction, as well as two other factions have all claimed victory of the supreme Court judgement.

Last month, the supreme Court set aside two decisions of the federal high court and court of appeal which recognised Julius Abure as the national chairman, maintaining that issues of leadership positions are internal affairs of political parties which courts have no jurisdiction over.
Otti, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Wednesday, described the news of his suspension as a joke taken too far and an affront on democracy.
According to the Abia Governor, the Supreme Court had ruled that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the LP, while the Nenadi-Usman-led Caretaker Committee had stripped Abure of the authority to parade himself as the National Chairman of Labour Party.
Otti urged Nigerians to disregard the news of his suspension by Abure.
For now it seems the crisis in the Labour Party, will continue for some time.
